I like how my work makes otherwise ordinary parts of people’s work enjoyable. It takes objects that people take for granted and makes them special.
It does this with ordinary clay. It is a democratic medium in the fact that anyone can go to a community center, pick up a box of clay and make progress into our medium. Even failures can lead someone on the way to creating their own artistic identity and style if they think about what they did wrong and how to improve it.
My work has no real deeper meaning or symbolism that I consciously place into it. I feel that there is a great pressure surrounding art to both find and place some great statement of great importance. I feel that there is no shame whatsoever in admiring or enjoying something just for the sake of its craftsmanship.
Finally, I hate artist statements. I feel that an artist should communicate their statement though their body work, and anything written should be sparse and lightly accent the body of work presented.
