I needed some tent weights to be able to secure my tent in windy settings. Like many craft fair people, I built a weight consisting of a PVC pipe filled with cement.
The first thing that I did was assemble the top of the weight to make sure that everything would fit properly. the washers were to ensure that the bolt had a good surface area to make contact with the concrete. The nuts attached the washers to the bolt, and the bolt allows a rope to be run though the weight.
Drilling the cap center.
Attaching the caps to the pipe. The pipe cement had a VERY strong fumes, so I did this in a well ventilated area with fans blowing air away from me. To me, this part carried the most potential for harm in my opinion. I’m glad that I don’t have to work with that stuff on a daily basis.
PVC pipes filled with cement. When I was starting the project, this was the pert that worried me the most as I have never mixed cement before. while this part did take some time to complete, it was not so hard to do.
Cleaning up the pipes.
Attaching weights to tent during set-up.
The weights do a good job of holding the tent down. but the only thing that I really Don’t like about them is the bulk. once I get more established, I plan on using weights of a denser material like iron or steel so that my tent weights take up less space. but for now, the cement pipes are the tool for the task.
