goblets

goblets are my favourite vessels to drink out of. I feel that the stem of a goblet has so much better leverage over a piece and its contents than a mug will have.

Yet a goblet carries a lot of preconceptions with it. People seem to think that a goblet is only for drinking wine or for communion. While they are certainly well suited to those tasks, I personally find it very enjoyable to drink soda and juice of them with a meal.

I like to accent my goblets with clear lines that clearly define each part of the piece, bit it the foot, stem, or top. the most difficult part of the goblet I feel is in the bottom half of the piece. there are many lines and angles that have to be replicated closely as possible between pieces, and the constriction necessary to create a good stem runs counter to clay’s desire to expand while throwing.
